Language Immersion Program – Italy

The Languages faculty at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College have developed a highly engaging Language Immersion Program whereby interested students travel to Italy and spend approximately three weeks experiencing cultural differences and developing their abilities to converse fluently in Italian.

Italian Sister School

The introduction of the Italian Language Immersion Program has seen Hoppers Crossing Secondary College develop a second Sister School relationship, with Liceo Scientifico Statale Fulcieri Paulucci Di Calboli in Forli, Italy.

Additionally, as a result of this new partnership, a delegation of student and teacher chaperones from Italy, will visit Hoppers Crossing Secondary College every two years to learn about Australian culture and our education system.

Cost & Selection

The Language Immersion Program is approximately $5,000 per student however this is all inclusive (airfares, accommodation, meals, transportation & attraction costs).

Students submit an application and if shortlisted, will sit an interview with a panel of teachers and Principal Class representatives. Successful students work collaboratively with the Languages faculty to fundraise with the aim of reducing per head costing for each student.

Overview of Program

The Program is run bi-annually and allows students from Years 10-12 the opportunity to enhance their Italian aural skills while learning first-hand about Italian culture, cuisine and history. Typically the delegation departs in mid September and travels throughout the Term 3 school holiday break.

Students from the College spend approximately one week based at the school where our students attend classes and also stay with one of the students and their family to truly experience the Italian way of life. Students develop a presentation about their school and the City of Wyndham, which they present to various audiences in Italy.

Over the remaining parts of the program students travel by coach to different parts of Italy including Milan, Venice, Florence, Pompei & Rome visiting iconic attractions and developing an appreciation for the architecture and history behind this amazing country.
