Scholarship Exam


Each year the College runs a Scholarship Examination, for students who have demonstrated significant academic ability.

The Scholarship Exam is run twice per year, in March and May.

Year 7 – Open to students who have been accepted into Hoppers Crossing Secondary College for Year 7 the following academic year.

Year 10 – Open to current Year 9 Hoppers Crossing Secondary College students or students who have been accepted into Hoppers Crossing Secondary College for Year 10 the following academic year.


2021 Scholarship Testing Information & Dates
Exam: Tuesday 14th September 2021

Year 7

The 2021 Scholarship Examination is only open to students who have been accepted into Hoppers Crossing Secondary College for Year 7 in 2022.

The Registration form will be sent out with your Welcome Pack and will need to be returned by 31st August 2021.

Year 10

Open to current Year 9 Hoppers Crossing Secondary College students or students who have been accepted into Hoppers Crossing Secondary College for Year 10 the following academic year.

The HAST Examination

The testing is conducted using the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST) administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). Learning areas assessed on the examination include; abstract reasoning, mathematical reasoning, reading comprehension and written expression.

The results allow the College to identify highly able students who may then be awarded with an academic scholarship to the value of $1,500 ($500 per year over three years). The scholarships can be used towards school related items. These students are also invited to take part in the Select Entry Enrichment Pathway (SEEP) Program at the College.

Registration is essential. Further information and testing dates will be made available towards the end of each school year.

**Please note – there is no practice material available for this examination.

The scholarship consists of $500 per year for Years 7, 8 and 9 & Years 10,11 and 12 – a total of $1500 over 3 years. Each year, $500 is credited to your school account and can be used for any of the following:
  • Jacaranda Ebooks
  • Language Perfect Subscription
  • English Novel
  • Essential Student Learning Items
  • Camps
  • Excursions
  • Uniform and
  • Netbook Provision

Please note, the $500 credit expires within each school year. Left over funds are not carried forward to the next school year.
