Senior Curriculum - VCE (Year 11 & 12)

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

 

The majority of students undertaking senior studies at the College elect to complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). A diverse range of VCE studies in a variety of learning areas are offered at the College based on the interests and career aspirations of our students. New subjects are offered based on changing student interests when required to ensure that we can cater to the learning of all students.

 

Students choosing a VCE pathway are able to select 5 subjects alongside the core subject of English/EAL English and continue 5 of these into year 12, retaining English. Our new pastoral care subject, Connect will also form part of every student’s program from years 7-12. 

 

In selecting their VCE subjects the following considerations should be taken into account: 

  • Interest and motivation to study in this subject 
  • Student ability and performance in different subject areas 
  • Future career pathway ideas 
  • Pre-requisite VCE studies deemed necessary by tertiary institutions (eg. universities) for entry into specific courses, and creating a program that leaves options for the future.
  •  Students should be investigating all subjects offered and making a decision that is right for them. 
  • Visiting the Course Selection Expo as well as reading the attached subject descriptions will give a great insight into what each subject entails. 

 

Core Subject: English or English (EAL)

Elective subjects: Choose any 5 other subjects

 

VCE Access into Year 11 and 12. 

Students who undertook a VCE Access subject in year 10, will complete the Unit 3-4 sequence of this subject in Year 11, along with their external VCAA exam.

 

Students who have completed a VCE Access subject are then eligible to undertake a University study of their choice which contributes to their final ATAR score.

 

Hoppers Crossing Secondary College has developed strong partnerships with a range of tertiary institutions including; The University of Melbourne and Monash University & Victoria University.  The Victoria University Early University Program (EUP), allows students from Hoppers Crossing Secondary College to undertake a University study as part of the VCE with a guaranteed place at Victoria University the following year.
